PTO Programs and Services

Although many people think of the PTO as a fundraising operation, this is only a very small part of what the PTO does. In fact, the only reason we raise money is to fund the programs and services we provide throughout the school year. Programs include special performances by professional artists several times during the school year, all arranged for and funded by PTO's Cultural Arts Committee.

We help fund other extra programs as well, including the Hi Touch/Hi Tech program, the sixth grade Nature's Classroom Trip, the pond studies program, and the annual Nutmeg/Acorn Ice Cream Social celebration at each school. Additionally, we provide teachers with a small donation for start-up classroom costs, and we offer a program called Enhanced Learning Fund (E.L.F.) where teachers may apply for funding of those creative classroom projects that just don't fit into the town education budget. We coordinate classroom parent volunteers (Room Parents), arrange for volunteers to help school nurses with vision screening, and through our Exploring Arts committee, parent volunteers come into the classroom to teach students about an artist or an artistic technique.
